The UAE Ministry of Education has announced plans to make all schools across the country completely paperless by the end of the 2024-2025 academic year, as part of the government’s wider push towards sustainability and digital transformation.
The initiative, which was piloted in select schools earlier this year, will see the replacement of traditional textbooks, assignments, and exams with digital versions. Students will now complete their coursework and assessments via tablets and laptops, with all learning materials accessible through a cloud-based learning management system.
H.E. Hussain Al Hammadi, Minister of Education, said, “The shift to digital education is not only environmentally responsible but also ensures our students are equipped with the skills needed in a digitally-driven world. This transition will enhance learning efficiency and reduce the environmental footprint of schools.”
The paperless initiative is part of the UAE’s broader sustainability goals, which include reducing waste and promoting the use of green technologies. Schools have already started training teachers and administrators to manage the digital infrastructure, and the Ministry plans to offer students and parents support in adapting to the new system.
